Hunters Military Records 

The following information was compiled by Thomas J Hunter who would like to dedicate this data to the memory of his second cousin, 

Private Wilfred Laurier HUNTER,  

Service # 453052, Age 19. He was Killed in Action at Courcelette, Somme , France on the 26th of September, 1916 while serving with the Canadian Machine Gun Corps and is buried in the Courcelette British Cemetery, France, in Grave # V. F. 8. He was the son of Alexander James Hunter and Susan (Stewart) Hunter of 34 Millbrook Crescent, Toronto, Ontario.

Over 600,000 Canadians enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War (1914-1918). The CEF database is an index to those personnel files, which are held by the National Archives. To date, over 350,000 images of Attestation papers have been scanned and are being made available on-line.

This site contains a registry of information about the graves and memorials of more than 116,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served valiantly and gave their lives for their country. The purpose of the Canadian Virtual War Memorial is to recognize and keep alive the memory of the achievements and sacrifices of Canadian citizens who have served in the defence of freedom and so have contributed to the development of Canada as a nation.   
 
This information has not been subject to any editing other than the authors own efforts so errors may be present. There may be duplicate entries for some individuals if a man enlisted more than once and was given a new service number.
